For our purposes, Tongue Weight is the free-hanging weight that your trailer hitch can support. It is imperative that you do not overload the tongue weight of your trailer hitch. Below is a reference guide:
Class I: Gross trailer weight up to 2000 lbs. Tongue weight up to 200 lbs.
Class II: Gross trailer weight up to 3500 lbs. Tongue weight up to 350 lbs.
Class III: Gross trailer weight up to 5000 lbs. Tongue weight up to 500 lbs.
Class IV: Gross trailer weight up to 12000 lbs. Tongue weight up to 1200 lbs.
Class V: Gross trailer weight up to 13000 lbs. Tongue weight up to 1300 lbs.
*please note: "up to" is a generalization of each class. Check the specifications of your trailer hitch to determine its actual capabilities.
**We do not sell our products for Class I trailer hitches out of concern for the safety of our customers, their vehicles, and others.
Make sure that the combined weight of your mobility device and the EZ Carrier products you purchase are at or under the Tongue Weight of your trailer hitch. Also, make sure that your mobility device is within the Weight Capacity of the EZ Carrier you purchase.
